Sexy Toothpaste

There is an old advertising adage that says simply "sex sells." In a society where day by day we are inundated with a barrage of images that range from inane to explicit where do we draw the line? I understand that to a great degree we have been desensitized and when the censorship conversation comes up usually the affirmative side gets marginalized because they are "prude," or "old-fashioned," or worse "out of touch." I consider myself fairly laissez-faire. I am a pretty strict constructionist in that I believe the first amendment guarantees speech even if I find it objectionable. However, this has gotten completely out of hand. I mean I was on you-tube and saw a commercial for Sensodyne toothpaste that was completely unnecessary. People I'm sorry but a sexy toothpaste commercial; really is that what we've degenerated into? I mean you can't even find normal soap anymore. Does anyone remember Coast? What about Ivory? Zest anybody? These days everything is supposed to be either sexy or delicious and it's completely unwarranted. I just want some soap or body wash that will remove bacteria and help me smell decent. I don't need to smell like vanilla and brown sugar. (Do we not fear cannibals anymore? j/k ) I don't want to smell delicious. Everything is sensual amber, or seductive lilac or not to mention my favorite sultry strawberries and cream. Seriously, sultry strawberries and cream? Come on people we are better than this. Listen maybe some dramatic license is being taken at ad agencies to the point where they feel like we have to sexualize everything. Just do me one favor, next time you are making a commercial or name for a product be creative. Unfortunately like rappers that have to fall back on derogatory imagery or profane lyrics due to a lack of creativity the ad makers are doing the same when it comes to selling products. My advice read your Bible and pray because it's only getting worse.

p.s. (if you want to see the commercial I am refferring to you will have to find it yourself)

We have a new Commander-in-Chief

Congrats go out to Barack Obama the current president-elect who when inaugurated is poised to become the 44th President of These United States. This election was dare I say electrifying. Turn-out was at an all time high. The body politic was energized and infused with vigor. While I disagreed fundamentally with many of Mr. Obama's policies he outlined while stumping; I as an American have no choice but to congratulate him on his historic achievement. Even John McCain who was gracious in defeat realized that to truly move forward as a country cohesion is neccesary. So Mr. Obama you have your Majorities in both the House and the Senate, as George W. Bush put it you have political capital. Spend your capital wisely. You made many promises now you will have to keep them. The measure of any true leader is not whether he/she can make promises. Nor is it whether he/she can position themselves in a positive light. The measure of a true leader comes when adversity is knocking at your front door and you answer it with the same resolve you had when everything was going good. Hypothetically you have what it takes to lead. Well hypothetically has come and gone and reality is fast approaching. Lead with heart, lead with courage, and always remember if you acknowledge God in everything you do he will direct your paths.

Don't blink or history will pass you by

Does it really even matter?

I was having a conversation today with some friends of mine and because it's so close we wound up discussing the impending election. That's right the one that's three (3) days away involving certain presidential implications. You already know my position, and if you don't just read the 4 million well spent post. What was interesting was the passion and vigor that this election has evoked. This election is quite possibly the most interesting in our nations history. You have to agree that's making a statement considering the debacle that occurred in 2000. Was the chad hanging or wasn't it? Was the secretary of state bribed? Was Jeb complicit in the hijacking of an election? Were millions of people just paranoid? No, this wasn't Days of Our Lives, Y&R, or a Spanish Tele-Novela, this was the initial election of our 43rd and current President George W. Bush (Dubya). Either way the chips fall this election is historic. If Barack Obama wins he's the first man with an African American heritage to become President. If John McCain wins he is the oldest man ever elected to his first term in US History. What do these two have in common you ask? Both are vying to inherit what is still on course (regardless of what you've heard or read) to be one of the most glorious financial hardships this country, and maybe even the world has faced. We talked and realized both men have plans to get us back to fiscal solvency. Both men say they just want the country to be great. Both men say they intend to cut taxes; (here's my question where is all this bailout money coming from? I mean they have money to give welfare to the airline industry, auto industry, insurance industry, not to mention the banking industry, but want to get all out of pocket when someone finds a way to draw two social security checks. does that really make sense....this is the end of my rant) so with minor differences in their overall methodologies what does it matter? Sure we all like the guy who reminds us the least of the man we've demonized into getting us into this position. But lest we forget the president doesn't make legislation he only signs bills into law. In esscence these men we are poised to elect are at best complicit and at worst more responsible for this financial travesty than our current president (maybe dubya can ask someone to pen it's hard out here for a president, or at least get whoever Billy Clint used when he weasled out of that whole "sexual relations" thing), but I digress because come November 5th in the words of the illustrious RL Matthews "I know one thing" we will have another president. However, knowing that the president really has only so much power does it really matter? Here's a better question can you afford not to care, and fail to exercise your right to vote? Just do me this favor if you don't vote don't give me your opinion on how the election turned out.

Stop Begging!!!

Many realize that today marks the celebration of All Hallows Eve, more commonly known as Halloween. It garners its origins in the Celtic Festival known as Samhain (thanks Wikipedia!!!), which was a marking of the end of the harvest season. Now, as we seem to with everything else in America, we celebrate by dressing up in costumes and going door to door with our hands out begging for confections. I was sitting here thinking and began to draw a parallel between Halloween and the impending Election. One of the candidates sent me correspondence everyday for a solid three (3) weeks begging for a donation. It was interesting to me because they sent a number of glossy full color photographs that even though they must have been mass produced to get a better rate still cost money. Does it really make sense to beg me for money by spending money on postage and swag? Couldn't the resources you already had been allocated more efficiently? It seems as though the candidates, and for that matter a number of American institutions treat everyday like it's Halloween. My advice, stop begging and utilize your resources more efficiently. You know what I've learned, if you keep your lights off trick-or-treaters will not come to your house. Consider this the proverbial lights out against materialistic, Godless, greedy, institutions. Stay off of my porch!!!

This is a great song

This song gets me every single time.....listen to the lyrics and it'll get you too

Broken by Indiana Bible College

Lord I am broken
My life is in pieces
But your strength is perfect in all of my weakness
Lord I am broken
My life is in pieces
But your strength is perfect in all of my weakness

Jesus, Jesus
Jesus Jesus
I'm calling you
Jesus, Jesus
Jesus Jesus
I'm calling you

I know I'm broken
but you can heal me
Jesus Jesus
I'm calling you
I know I'm broken
but you can heal me
Jesus Jesus
I'm calling you

I might not be worth much
But I'm still willing
Jesus Jesus
I'm calling you
I might not be worth much
But I'm still willing
Jesus Jesus
I'm calling you

Sang that thang boy

I'm a Maverick Baby!!!!!

I think it's clear that the word of the month has to be maverick. No not the team in Dallas, nor the county in which Eagle Pass, TX resides, not even the Tom Cruise character in Top Gun (of course I happen to respect Goose way more, which leads me to the question in a Caldo Eating contest who wins Goose or Ice-man? Seriously....I don't think it particularly matters whether it's Caldo de Res or Caldo de Pollo my money's on Goose. But honestly, can anyone give me any sort of update on what's going on with Val Kilmer. I'm fairly certain he's alive, but is he still getting work. I mean if Kevin Costner can still get work after The Postman,Waterworld, and to a lesser degree Tin Cup (you had to see that coming) where's the love for Val?), but as dictionary.com defines a lone dissenter, as an intellectual, an artist, or a politician, who takes an independent stand apart from his or her associates. Come On!!! You can't seriously believe any and I do do mean ANY of these candidates are mavericks. When is the last time you heard that any of these people were lone dissenters'. When is the last time you've heard any qualitative major stance against an overwhelming tide of public opinion any and let me say it again ANY of these candidates have taken. You want a real maverick think of Tommy Smith and John Carlos defiantly putting up their fist at the 68' olympics.....Think Martin Luther King Jr. who decided it was better to fight violence with passive resistance..... most importantly think Jesus Christ who instead of causing violence to break out on his behalf said turn the other cheek and forgive them. So it is with great pleasure I ask you this question are you a Maverick???

Goose in my book you we're the real Maverick

4 million well spent

So I watched the much balley-hooed Barack Obama Infomercial early this morning on You-tube. Calm down, some people had to work while the thing was on live (plus there happened to be a very tenseley fought Spurs-Suns game; Shaq looked dare I say dominant. Of course I have no real idea as I previously mentioned I was working :) ). To be honest all I can say is thank God I voted early. The reason I make that statement is because the man presented himself to be downright Presidential. Not in that Youngbloodz let's get it on the floor way, (anyone remember that album? remember that foot tap dance thing they did? "Don't start no stuff, won't be no stuff," lemme quit. Shouts out to Vader) but JFK during the first debate with Nixon, or Gdubya when announcing, "We're gonna get them terrorists." (remember Colin Powell with that kick it down a notch cochese look in his eye.) Come on I can't be the only one who remembers the obscene amount of arrogant swagger during that press conference. Sorry, back to the topic at hand. Barack Obama managed to portray himself in an authoritative light than John McSame....oops McCain has not been able to match. Unfortunately for Barack this may not be enough to sway voters who shall we say don't neccessarily share the views of Dr. King. I suppose I should be honest and tell you I don't think either major party candidate would be a positive for our nation. I should also tell you I don't agree with many of their policies on many issues. This is a Blog and I just felt it needed to be said that Obama managed to come of in a positive light and this is from someone who thinks he would make a melancholy president. That's my way of saying neither bad, nor good. To be honest I think both would do more harm than good.

Hail to the Chief ????
